Related Collections

Related collections let you link multiple collections together to provide context across incidents, events, and investigations. For example, a collection representing a geographic region might be related to collections containing people, addresses, or identifiers associated with that area.

After you have found a collection, you can open it by sending it to an Object Details Viewer (ODV). Related collections are managed from the Details tab.

Open the Related Collections accordion to see all related collections displayed as cards.

Open a related collection by clicking the View icon, dragging it to another ODV, or dragging it onto the current ODV. See Viewing Data with ODV.

If a relationship reason is defined, it appears in the Related by text in the upper-right corner of the card.

You can relate collections using any of the following methods.

To relate a collection from the Related Collections accordion:

  1. Open the Related Collections accordion.
  2. Click Add a Collection.
  3. In the Collections modal, search or filter for collections.
  4. Click Add for each collection you want to relate.

From the More Actions Menu​

To relate a collection from the More (⋮) menu:

  1. In the current active Object Details Viewer, click the More (⋮) menu in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Add to Related Collections.
  3. In the Collections modal, search or filter for collections.
  4. Click Add for each collection you want to relate.

Dragging and Dropping​

If a collection is already open in an ODV, drag another collection onto it and drop it on the Add Collection as Related drop zone to relate the collection.

Editing Relationship Descriptions​

You can add or update optional descriptive text to explain how two collections are related, correct typos, or provide additional context.

  1. Open the Related Collections accordion.
  2. On the related collection card, click Related by in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter or update the description, then click Update.
